Week 8 — LIVE Marketing Implementation (IG account reviews)
Core idea
Live teardown of ~10 student Instagram creator accounts. Marketing is a probabilistic skill, not binary like chatting: accounts win by niching down so the algorithm can rank them, nailing the "5 building blocks" of every reel, and fixing basics (visuals, hooks, outfits, conversion elements) before chasing fancy tactics.
Key concepts/frameworks
- Niche-down principle: broad topics can't be ranked ("how to become a millionaire" vs. "millionaire selling electrolyte rings"). The smaller the bubble, the higher you rank, the more loyal/spending fans. Go broader later.
- One-sentence rule: if you can't describe the creator/account in one sentence (e.g., "elevator girl," "Jellybean jumping on supercars"), there's a persona problem.
- 5 building blocks per reel: (1) hook/stop-scroll factor in first 3 seconds, (2) attractive creator presentation, (3) good visuals/location/lighting, (4) interesting every second, (5) reward/retainer/rewatch at the end. Most accounts hit 3 of 5 — the missing 1-2 cap their views.
- Hide weaknesses, push strengths: cardinal outfit/framing rule for creators.
- Outlier analysis: no view outbreaks = research problem (copied a non-outlier video) or implementation problem (didn't replicate what made the original viral).
- Luck vs. strategy test: is a content style repeatable across 10 creators, predictable in views, and long-lived on new accounts?
- Conversion funnel: 3 buyer types — ready-to-buy (link highlight), never-buyers, and the on-the-edge majority (needs stories + highlights to convert).
- Talking content on IG must be top-tier or don't do it; memes/reacting clips only work if the creator is uniquely watchable (top-of-funnel only, poor conversion).
- The more sexually aggressive the content, the fewer views; niche content (e.g., pool skills) converts better with higher LTV.
- Virality is probabilities: perfect video raises odds but timing/luck still factor in.
Action items
- Pick one clear topic/backstory per account so the algorithm can rank it.
- Remove all reels from the main feed (keep only the latest pinned); main feed = sales copy with best photos.
- Post 5–8 stories every day; build 2–3 highlights beyond the link (attractive pics ending in a link, lifestyle/Q&A ending in a link).
- Strengthen hooks: movement, visual intrigue, or stop-scroll factor in the first 3 seconds; cut dead intros (outfit reveals every ~1.5s, not 10s).
- Match creator energy to persona (e.g., "crazy Berlin girl" must act crazy).
- Review the last 10 researched vs. posted videos side-by-side; identify what made the original viral, fix that one thing in the next 10 videos.
- Build/expand the target creator list and pattern vault; test repeatable patterns (same format, varied texts/outfits/hooks) — but don't split-test what's already working.
- Set up wardrobe control: inventory the creator's clothes, prescribe outfits per video, recheck before posting.
- Never delete underperforming videos (archive only if flagged) — they're data.
- Don't repost/duplicate content — IG detects it. Fix content quality instead of spoofing.
- Wait 14–30 days before putting a link in bio; link-highlight after ~2,000 followers.
SOPs/scripts/templates
- Highlight stack template: Highlight 1 = link (high-intent buyers); Highlight 2 = ~5 attractive photos, last one an OF link; Highlight 3 = lifestyle/Q&A/personality content ending in a link.
- Outlier replication checklist: find a 10x outlier video on a target creator → identify hook/public setting/amateur "friend-filmed" feel/energy → recreate all of it, adjusting to your creator.
- Account audit flow: profile pic → bio (authentic, non-bot CTA) → follow count (follow more to not look like a bot) → highlights/stories → main feed vs. reels tab → per-video building blocks.
Tools
- Instagram (reels, stories, highlights) — main traffic platform
- Typeform — collecting student accounts for review
- WhatsApp/Telegram groups — community Q&A
- "Liquid" — IG unban representative vouched for by six/seven-figure agencies
- YouTube — tutorials (e.g., removing AI glow from edited videos)
Metrics/KPIs
- Views per reel: baseline vs. outliers (examples: 400K→25K drop diagnosed as hook failure; 4M pool video vs. 15K recreations)
- 200K views → 2.4K link clicks (conversion example cited)
- 5–8 stories/day minimum
- Link in bio: wait 14–30 days; link highlight: ~2,000 followers
- Audience quality: target 95% male; watch country stats (broad/AI-perfect content ruins audience)
- Story views benchmark gap: 9K followers with only ~200 story views flagged as a problem
