FC #3: Avoiding IG Bans — Implementation Playbook
Core idea
Instagram bans are now mostly "chain bans" (Meta AI links an account to an already-disabled account via device/network/contact data points), so recovered accounts get rebanned ~98-100% of the time unless the underlying setup changes. The fix is a clean, paranoid account setup (new dedicated hardware, physical SIM, mobile data only, full data separation) plus lower posting output — not paying unban reps repeatedly. Avoiding the bleed (typically $10-20k/month per agency in unban fees plus lost creator revenue) is itself a fast-cash play.
Key concepts/frameworks
- Chain ban (new ban reason: "creating an account to bypass our rules" / "same person or entity as another disabled account") — not content-based, not warm-up-fixable; triggered by AI linking data points.
- Trust score is the whole game: clean device, real SIM, mobile data, natural engagement.
- Three ban filters hit at once by high output: spam detection, originality enforcement, recommendation review.
- Post-unban second review: when a recovered account's reel goes viral, Meta re-reviews under stricter rules and rebans — pull back output when momentum hits.
- Anti-business: paying reps to unban, changing nothing, getting rebanned in 24h-5 days, repeat.
- 8 patterns from 28-agency survey (see Action items).
- Segregation principle: safe tier of accounts vs. risk accounts, fully separated.
Action items
- [ ] After any ban, swap hardware — new physical phone (factory reset is NOT enough; device retains Meta data points). Resell old iPhones (lose ~$100-200) to fund swaps.
- [ ] Change email AND phone number on the OLD device first, then migrate to the new device (avoids IG's new-device cooldown); if already on new device, wait 3-4 days before changing anything.
- [ ] Cap output at 2-3 reels/day/account total; if account is flagged or content is repetitive, go lower.
- [ ] Cap accounts per creator at 1-2 for important creators (4 OK, 8 absolute max — cut losers); fewer accounts = fewer chain-ban connections.
- [ ] Clean device checklist per account: iPhone X or newer (not refurbished), iCloud backup OFF, real phone number (physical SIM only — no eSIMs/Airalo), dedicated Gmail, fresh Apple ID, mobile data only, Bluetooth off, never Wi-Fi, aged Facebook account only if genuinely real, daily natural engagement, correct region/language.
- [ ] One-to-one separation: unique email, bio, profile picture, phone number per account; never share recovery emails, Business Manager, or pixels across accounts; no cross-tagging/cross-promoting a creator's own accounts.
- [ ] No bio link until 7 days old or 5k followers (earlier = restriction).
- [ ] Vet unban reps: ask exactly how they recover accounts (most just log in and appeal from their own flagged setup); for main accounts / 100k+ followers, use only trusted reps (Liquid recommended; Joker cited as problematic) or rebuild instead.
- [ ] Move posting ops out of the Philippines (bad IP fraud scores, unsupervised VAs use Wi-Fi/consolidate accounts); prefer Western Europe/USA/Switzerland with physical supervision or live monitoring.
- [ ] After recovery: delete risky content, stop posting 5-7 days, set account private, swap hardware, change things gradually (not all at once).
- [ ] Check IP/fraud scores at ipqualityscore.com — keep score as low as possible.
- [ ] Run a full setup audit with your team today; brief every VA/poster on the new rules.
- [ ] Vary reshoots (background, outfit, car position) — metadata stripping tools don't fool Meta's visual fingerprinting.
SOPs/scripts/templates
- Clean account setup checklist (from slides): 1 email/account, mobile data only, no Wi-Fi, no Bluetooth, physical SIM, 1 phone number/account, 1 Gmail, unique bio + profile picture, 2FA authenticator with secret key backed up, bio link only after 7 days/5k followers.
- Ban recovery decision tree: Is the account important? → Yes: try without a rep / talk to rep upfront ("I don't want this account fucked again — what can I do?") → No: rebuild from scratch with clean setup. Then: delete risky content → private → 5-7 day posting pause → hardware swap → gradual changes.
- Rep vetting script: ask how they do the recovery, whether they log in from their own setup, and whether they're exposed to the contamination risks above.
Tools
- ipqualityscore.com — check IP/fraud score of connection.
- Liquid — trusted unban rep (partnered with Oliver).
- Joker — unban rep flagged as causing contamination issues.
- STLBO — smaller link provider; better results than big providers (e.g. Beacons/Bouncy), which Meta flags faster.
- Cheap throwaway phones — for receiving SMS codes on secondary accounts.
- Cloud phones — possible but distrusted; physical devices preferred.
Metrics/KPIs
- 98-100% reban rate if device not swapped (28-agency survey); 100% reban for agencies that didn't switch devices.
- Average reban time: 72 hours (range 24h-5 days).
- Typical bleed: $10-20k/month per agency; creators earning $10-20k lose ~half of it while accounts are down.
- Cleanest agencies: 1 ban in 6 months; 2 bans agency-wide over years with 1-2 accounts/creator.
- Posting cap: 2-3 reels/day/account; account cap: 1-2 per creator (max 4, hard ceiling 8).
- Post-recovery pause: 5-7 days; new-device cooldown wait: 3-4 days; bio link gate: 7 days or 5k followers.
